Soviet Russian Wwii Flight Helmet W GauntletsThe helmet being offered is the soviet wwii copy of the. German lkp-101 pilot helmet. The helmet interior lining is intact with a soviet label. It is rare to find any label in any wwii russian helmet. The markings on the label look like two numerals, possibly size 56? It looks like a smaller 5 above. Anything else has worn off. Interior ear pads are deteriorated but show the comm. Phones. (see photos).
Exterior of the helmet is ni v. G. Condition for a wwii soviet flyers helmet. Leather era cups are in excellent condition.
On left ear cup (facing forward) is a. Hand painted 37 in hwite paint (? ) and is old and faded. Above that is a small rde 4.
Possibly and probably the fellow's flight unit. Other era cup is not marked. Amazingly, all the elecrtical for the comm. System is in place. Throat mics are ni place.
The rust on them is evidence that. They are made of metal and therefore from early in the war. Most.
Soviet throat mics were made of metal until late in the war. When they switched to bakelite.
German throat microphones were made of bakelite. Soviet copies fo the german lkp100 and lkp101 series have. Only one chinstrap.
German ehlmets have two chinstraps that crisscross. Soviet copies have two extra goggle straps on both sides of the. Head terminating just below the temple.
Most russian copies use the three (3) point oxygen attachment system. That is because they used mostly captured stocks of german oxygen masks. The v shapde tear (sewn up) indicates that someone on the assembly line sewed the pigtail for comm.
In the. Wrong place, the fisrt time. The metal clip ta the rear above the pigtail was for holding down the goggle strap (see photos).
I'm including a pair of soviet flight gauntlets made fo a similar material as the flight helmet. There is a label in one of the gauntlets, however, time and wear have removed whatever was there. Reference prodger's vintage flight helmets.
P332 at bottom of page, photo shows wwii goggles with vents. P333 at top of page shows post war goggles without the vents. Also, see p331 and note that the museum of the armed focres in moscow. Is missing the comm. Plug! Note that the photo beolw that shows the russian copy of the lkp101 is missing the.
Other half of the throat mic and strap. Why are these sovite helmets, goggles, etc. So rare and hard to find? At the end of wwii sovite pilots had to turn in all flight gear and. All other combat gear. lAl of it was destroyed.
So too, infantry. The soviet vets returned home in what passed for dress uniforms, to no jobs, or benefits of any kind. Goggles not included ni this auction.
